i'm having a give away

there is something seriously wrong with me and my love for tape.  all kinds of tape.  washi tape.  duct tape, packaging tape. masking tape.  venting tape.  i have it all.  yes...i have a HUGE collection.  so big i should be ashamed when i tell you i have over 300 rolls of tapes.  i should be even more hesitant to say i still hunt for patterns i don't have.

i would say my affinity for packaging tape started quite a long time ago.  i love coming up with ideas on how to use it.  i was sent an idea through pinterest  that my friend, cathy parmelee, had come across about making packaging tape postcards.  i couldn't believe i hadn't thought of that!  i use it for nearly everything else and anyone who knows me i LOVE postcards.

in fact i make postcards monthly to send to family and friends every month.  it has been a great way to keep in touch with those people whom i love dearly.  so the two ideas together makes total sense to me.

following through the pinterest site information on the postcard didn't provide exact instructions, so i just decided to wing it and see what i could come up with.  now, keeping in mind this was my first attempt, i am on postcard number five and i'm seeing more and more how to create them.

here is the front of my packaging tape postcard.  i have the name of the recipient erased through photoshop because i want it to be a surprise.
here is the back of the postcard.  of course, i had to erase the message since it had her name on it.
and here it is held up to the glass sliding door so you can see how you can see through it.  it's such a great technique and i will work on refining it.

i love making them so much that i decided i will make one for one lucky winner.  i will pick a winner sometime next week so that you can start off your new year with a piece of mail art.  all you have to do is leave a comment below.   merry christmas!

what i've been up to lately

it seems i've truly just discovered a deep passion for duct tape.  who knew?!  i can forsee everyone i know getting something with duct tape this coming year.

i started out with the simple pencil bag.
then i wanted to use the scraps from the bottom of the zipper bag to make pockets.
from there i had an idea to make a cosmetic bag that expanded on the bottom and added another zipper pouch to the front with a loose, slide in pocket between the two zippered compartments.

i wanted to make coin purses.  so this is the first one i made.  i cut little half circles for scallops for a trim.
then i wondered what other trim details i could make. i thought i could make little pennants for trim. so this is what i made next.
from there i thought i bet i could recycle some altoid tins i have.  so i decided to experiment.  i made this to go with my cherry coin purse.
i worked out some kinks and decided to make a blue one to match my car and put some traveling essentials in it.  this is what i came up with.
do you see a quirky gift coming in the mail in your near future?  if so...you better watch out!

guest designer for the roc nicholas rubber stamp design team

meet karen hayselden.  she is a guest designer for the roc nicholas rubber stamps design team and i couldn't be more thrilled she loves to use my rubber stamps!  karen, aka kassa, lives in yorkshire in the united kingdom.  she lives in a  beautiful part called wharf valley.  she says, “you can look across the valleys on any given day, through the sunshine, wind, rain, snow, rainbows and always be blown away with the spectaluar views that  mother nature offers up on a daily basis”.   she lives in this magical place with her husband and teenage daughter.  they all share residence with three furry companions.  she has a pug who can be found at her feet, keeping them warm and two very nosey giant leonberger dogs.

karen grew up with art all around her.   she states her mom was an amazing artis who painted stunningly detailed, vivid, botanical art and was also a pottery teacher. kassa’s grandfather was an accomplished artist who created fine architectural and magnificent landscape pieces. both of karen’s grandmothers were amazing at all sorts of crafts, including sewing, knitting, cooking and flower arranging.

with all that artistry in her family it is no wonder karen loves being in her craft room. she loves the balance she has found within its walls.  she admits she can get into a frantic, hyper mode so she needs a few diversions in her room with her, such as her dogs and keeping her television on.  she usually opts for a channel that has something interesting on like a detective or thriller program.  the dogs and tv help to distract her making for a perfectly balanced work environment.

kassa’s artwork has a little shabby chic edge to it. she is happiest combing all sorts of mediums that helps to push her boundaries and helps to keep her art evolving.  i think you'll agree with me that karen's work is wonderful.

what beautiful colors in this piece of art!  karen used my cat rubber stamp and my lace border stamp to create this.
you can see the layers she used to create a beautiful three dimensional piece of art.  what a great job she did!
how adorbale is this!  what a clever way to use my horse stamp.  i love the fringe that's been added for the mane and tail.

i love all the textures karen used to create this.  it's such a wonderful idea.  i love how cleverly she has used my rubber stamps.  that makes me very happy.

guest designer for the roc nicholas rubber stamp team

Meet Astrid Stulemiejer.  She is 34 years young and lives with her husband and son in the south of The Netherlands.  She is full time mom, not necessarily by choice, but she enjoys being home.  She thought being at home would provide her a lot of time to create, but she confesses she is busier than ever.

Astrid's mother got cancer in 2007 and she began to journal to deal with the process of her mom's illness and her significant loss.  She credits journaling in helping her let go of things in her life.  Besides journaling Astrid also loves making cards.  She generously sends them through a foundation to sick people.

Astrid joined the Stampotique Design Team in 2012 which was a dream come true.  She is such a big fan of the Stampotique rubber stamps.

As you can see, Astrid's work is extremely olorful.  She loves using contrasting colors.  Her favorite medium is Dylusions spray, and when she does her art journaling she really enjoys using her Gelli Plate.

I personally love Astrid's art.  It is bright, cheerful and beautifully done.  It is an honor to have her use my rubber stamps in her many creations.  I couldn't be more enthusiastic about her art.  She has a true gift!

Astrid used my i'm learning to fly text rubber stamp and my flying pig stamp to create this lovely page.
How adorable is this matchbox!  To create it Astrid used my bird lady rubber stamp and my just be u text stamp.
Look at this beautiful piece of art !  Aren't the colors amazing?!  To make it Astrid used my daisyhead rubber stamp.

All my stamps are sold through stampotique.com.  if you'd like to see all of my rubber stamp line please click here.
